Na al die jaren hebben we eindelijk een echte witte Kerstmis. Heel charmant en sfeervol, als je er niet door moet met de fiets, auto of te voet. Een wandeling door de sneeuw is wel leuk, tenminste met het juiste schoeisel aan je voeten en lekker ingeduffeld. Dan heeft het wel iets. Vandaag begint de kerstvakantie en straks is het Kerstavond. Door de sneeuw is het een drukte van belang op de wegen.

Vele mensen moeten nog gaan winkelen voor de kerstmaaltijd of last minute cadeautjes kopen. Laat ons toch niet verzwelgen in overdaad, noch voor het eten noch voor de cadeautjes. Simpel en eenvoudig kan ook, en dat kan heel knus en gezellig zijn. Het hoeft allemaal geen hopen geld te kosten. Denk op dagen als deze ook eens aan de mensen die geen dak boven hun hoofd hebben. Of mensen die alleen zijn en zich op dagen als deze extra eenzaam voelen. Ik las in de krant dat er procentueel gezien minder en minder mensen Kerstmis vieren en cadeautjes kopen. Dat is niet slecht, vind ik. Uiteindelijk draait Kerstmis rond gezellig samenzijn met iets lekkers om te eten en te drinken. Wat mij betreft, hoeft het helemaal niet zo opgefokt te zijn. In feite liever niet. Doe mij maar gewoon, gezellig en knus, maar gewoon.
Vanmorgen bracht mijn man onze Stijn met de slee naar school. Daarna zijn we met ons Laura wat inkopen gaan doen voor de week en ook voor ons kerstavondje straks. 's Middags zijn we Stijn te voet van school gaan halen. Daar hebben we alle vier van genoten. En dat kost helemaal niks.
Laat ons genieten van de warmte en gezelligheid in ons huis tijdens deze witte kerstdagen. Sfeervolle kerstliedjes op de radio (Slade, Chris Rea, ...) , lekker knus binnen een spelletje spelen, lezen of iets anders. Voor mij geen stress in de keuken om een maaltijd ineen te knutselen voor gasten. Gewoon een lekkere maaltijd voor ons vieren vanavond. En een lekker dessertje. Rustig en sereen, no stress. Dat is de leukste Kerstmis voor mij.
Ik wens iedereen een gezellige, warme Kerstavond en Kerstdag toe.

After all those years we are finally having a white Christmas. Charming and romantic, but not if you have to go some place by car, by bike or on foot. A walk in the snow is fun, as long as you are wearing the right boots and clothes. I can really enjoy a nice walk in the snow. But snow also means a change of plans. Tonight's Christmas Eve and tomorrow is Christmas Day. The snow causes traffic jams and accidents. That's not romantic at all.
I'm sure many people are shopping at this moment. Buying last minute Christmas presents, buying food and drinks for the Christmas dinner. You shouldn't make too big a fuss about it. In fact, keeping it simple works just fine. It can be very charming. There's no need for exaggeration. You can have a lovely Christmas without overdoing it all. Let's think about all those people who don't have cosy, warm houses to live in, let alone celebrate Christmas. Let's also think about the lonely people for whom these Christmas days maybe are the loneliest days of the year.
I read in the newspaper that there is a growing number of people who don't celebrate Christmas anymore. I can certainly understand that. In the end, Christmas is all about being together with the ones you love. It's not about buying the most expensive presents or eating the most exquisite dishes. I also prefer to keep it simple.
This morning my husband brought our son to school on the sledge. After that we went to the supermarket to buy some food and drinks for Christmas Eve. And at noon we picked up our son up at school and walked home through the snow all four of us. We enjoyed it very much, and it costs absolutely nothing. And now the Christmas Holidays have officially started.
Let's enjoy the cosiness and warmth inside our houses when it's white and cold outside. Christmas songs on the radio - how I love them (Slade, Chris Rea, ...) - and no stress for cooking a Christmas meal for guests. We are going to have a nice and cosy Christmas Eve at home. Relaxed and peaceful, just the way I like Christmas best.
